She has started to throw fits or tantrums at school. She had a substitute teacher for the last two days and both days, she had tantrums. Yesterday, the Principal took her down to his office to calm her down and read a book to her. I can't tell you how appreciative I am with this school and it's teachers, para's and Principal. They are doing what they can to HELP. Not once have I gotten a phone call, but rather they are dealing with her and trying to help the situation. We are in talks with the Monroe Meyer Institute about Jaimie and it is our HOPE that we can get the help that she needs so she can have a good school year and at home. We've tried dealing with her fits at home for as long as we could, it's now time to see if there's something more out there for her so we can help her. Medication maybe an option and one we at first were hesitant about doing, but it's time to look at that option as well. We just want our little girl to be happy.

Start of a New School Year and Fears....

Tomorrow marks the day of a new school year! I am so excited for my kids and for me. It's been a long summer and if anyone knows what a summer is like or a long time is like with an Autistic child, you know then how challenging it is to keep them busy, stress free and fit throwing free. Not easy and it certainly wasn't easy in our household. Not to mention the potty training dilemma we are still having. Very tiny steps are being made, but we are stil not there yet.

I do have two fears about school though for Jaimie. One, the potty training. Although I know the teachers are well equipt and have had experience with changing pull ups at school and assisting in the bathroom, it stil makes me feel bad.

Two, the fit throwing. Will Jaimie be able to attend school without throwing fits? I feel bad that the teachers may have to deal with it. Although she is in a special education type setting, I still feel bad.

I know my feelings are normal. It is what it is though. And I need to just take a deep breath and get over it.

My positive nature is telling me this year is going to be great with a lot of growth for Jaimie involved. Open House Night went great. She met her teacher, toured her classroom and had a good time. This is the beginning of a great school year. My heart just knows it and that's what I need to keep reminding myself.

Jen ( Mom to Jaimie, an Autistic child )

Summer School, Soccer, Anniversary, Trip and School

It's been awhile since I have blogged so I thought I would go ahead and get caught up now.

Jaimie ended the year great and attended two sessions of summer school. She loved it! We had absolutely no issus with her and going so that is a plus! She learned about sea animals and they read lots of books. Today is her last day of summer school which is one on one attention. It's really been a great experience.

In just a few days, we go on our trip to AZ to visit the house we bought and to visit my family there. We won't be gone long, but that's okay. I know we will have a good time.

Both boys are gearing up for a year of soccer. Jack made the select team again and Kenny will be playing for the first time in a long time. It will be good to have him back in the game. I know he will do just fine.

School starts in 3 weeks. I can't wait! It will give the kids something to do and me my house back again to myself. Gotta love it!

Ken and I celebrate our 20th year anniversary in August as well. Time sure does go by quickly when you are having fun! :)

Well, that's the report for now. Hope you are all having a fantastic summer. Before you know it, we will be greeting Fall!

Jen

Special Meeting and Spring!

April 21st will be the day we meet with Jaimie's new teachers at her new school for Kindergarten next year. I am excited. I think it will be a very good meeting. I plan on bringing a picture of Jaimie to the meeting so the teachers have a "face" to whom we are talking about - Jaimie!

I am relieved to hear she will have special bussing available to her which is great. They come straight to the house and pick her up and come straight back to drop her off. It's such a blessing.

Meanwhile, we are still working on potty training and still getting help from the Monroe Myer Institute.

Spring has finally sprung around here. It's so nice to see green grasses popping up everywhere and robins singing their songs everywhere I go.

Potty Training, Kindergarten and Warmer Weather

Just a quick update on how Jaimie is doing. We are charting her toileting and we are starting to see a pattern which is good. Our next appt. with the Dr. is on the 16th of March to go over it. I am so glad they are helping us out with this so we can hopefully get her potty trained by Kindergarten.

Speaking of Kindergarten, her preschool teacher emailed me about that very thing. She will not be going to the school we thought she would go to for Kindergarten becauase they don't have enough services for her. So it will be between two other schools instead that do provide the services needed to help Jaimie. We missed the Kindergarten Round Up meeting. That's where you go and meet your teacher, view the classroom, but that's okay. I am just glad that they realize they can't meet her needs and are looking at other schools.

Her teacher comes over for a home visit on the 16th as well. Hopefully she will have more information to provide to us about her new school.

Spring is definitely trying to sprung around here. I hear robins singing outside my window and the weather is getting a little warmer. I just FEEL it! With that being said, because of the weather change, some of us in the house have come down with the common cold, me and Jaimie being one of them. Joy!

Until next time, enjoy each and every day with your loved ones!

Meeting at Monroe Myer Institute

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-59rQd0EoWhQ/TV0oesLWrfI/AAAAAAAAAFU/J5BKGJdhSf0/s200/Jaimie.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5574656421474512370" />
We had a "get to know you" meeting over at the Monroe Myer Institute for Jaimie. We discussed such topics as her melt downs, hitting herself, potty training, her ability to sleep through the night now thanks to Melatonin and some of her quirks such as liking to wear her winter jacket all the time. It was a good meeting. We decided the number one priority to try and get under way is the potty training. So, they are going to email me a two week potty training schedule so we can see when she goes to try and help her get trained. Secondly, we will think of ways to cool her down during those melt downs so they are fewer and far between. Medications were brought up, but it's too early to consider it in our opinions. We want to exhaust all avenues first before putting her on anything at this point, but it's nice to have that option. The meeting lasted about an hour and 15 minutes and we are to make another appt. in two weeks. We are hopeful that this will help us to help Jaimie.

4 years strong in my Candle Business!

It's been about 4 years since I made the decision to join my Candle Company and through those 4 years I have had my ups and my downs but I have always bounced back. When I think about how I was 8 months pregnant when I joined, living on my own for almost a year due to my husband, Ken being out of state, finishing up his Air Force career and raising two boys on my own.. I ponder about.. WHAT WAS I THINKING? At a time when many people would say, "I am too busy, life has gotten in the way, etc" I jumped in with open arms and feet fully wet embracing a new career knowing full well I couldn't attend to my new candle career full time, but I could do it with the time that I had and I did. There have been times when I thought maybe I should quit. I have to be honest, there was one time in particular I remember feeling this way but I remembered my WHY. When you sit down and think about your WHY it's easier to get back on track. My why is simply wanting something for ME. Being a stay at home Mom is very rewarding and challenging, but as stay at home Moms we often put ourselves last on the totem pole of life. Although I was about to pop and trying to run a household alone, I didn't forget about ME and so when things get bumpy I think about why I joined my Candle Company. I am so greatful for my opportunity. It has led me down a path I would not have imagined. I have developed great friendships with my partners and others along the way, I've become a better Leader and of course, I have made an income from HOME.
If you are pondering whether or not this opportunity is right for you, I encourage you to go to my website and request a Scent Sample Packet. I cut them out, put tape on the back of them and put them on a different sheet of paper... then, I taped the two sets on both bathroom walls infront of the toilet so she could see each procedure. So far, it seems to be helping as she looks and uses each step. I have a washing of the hands picture card and a drying of the hands picture card next to the sinks as well.

Jaimie uses picture cards called PECS at school, so I thought why not give it a whirl at home. We also have a picture card for not hitting yourself. As Jaimie tends to hit herself quite often out of frustration. So, I taped this onto a magnet and it sits on our refridgerator. When she hits herself, I show her the picture magnet and she repeats what the picture is conveying. Don't hit yourself. It's my hope she will become more aware of what she is doing and eventually stop altogether of the hitting.

If you are struggling with autism and would like to know where I got the picture cards, just go to: http://www.dotolearn.com where you can successfully print out all the cards of your liking.

Have a blessed day,

Jen

Our trials with Autism....

Ah the trials of Autism. Our main challenges for our daughter Jaimie are three issues. Potty training, tantrums and sleeplessness. These are all red flags of Autism and they are here to stay. At 4 years of age, it has to be very frustrating for her, probably more so then it is for us, and that's what we have to remember. Since the verification at school, we've been reading, educating ourselves about Autism. It's something we will continue to do for LIFE. This isn't going away. Our darling daughter has this for the rest of her life, so we must do what we can to help her any way that we can. I would really like to connect with anyone out there who has a child with Austism. So, if you are out there, please email me at: talon28@aol.com. I could use the support and encouragement through this whole process. As parents of an Autistic child, you do feel alone and isolated and feel like no one understands unless they are dealing with the same thing.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Well here we are and it's Christmas Eve. It's of no surprise but at the same time, my husband and I feel bad for her.. yet she has not a clue and lives a happy, care free life everyday. She's in her world, we are in ours and they are quite different. What this will mean, will be that she will have more opportunity for more help, now that the verification process has been done and it's understood. In her I.E.P. meeting yesterday ( Independent Education Plan) they will work on some new things with her and keep steady with things she has been working on. Much of her delay is because of sensory type issues which is something the Occupational Therapist will be working on with her along with helping her to learn how to use a pair of scissors, draw in the lines and be able to hold a pencil correctly. Little things we take for granted, but are a challenge for her.

As her parents, we will be reading a lot of books on the subject and finding more ways to help her. Anyone out there who has a child of Autism, I invite you to email me and share what you do to help your child. Any tips is appreciated. You can email me at: burningbelief@aol.com

It's a long road ahead, but the good news is there is HOPE. Always will be and we are very fortunate, as Jaimie is high functioning. Things will take longer for her to grasp, but she will get there.

Many blessings to you and yours,

Jen Ouellette

Post Thanksgiving, Shopping, My Tarts, Weather

Greetings to you! It was a nice Thanksgiving at my hubby's family's house but glad to be back home again. We already put the tree up two weeks earlier so that is done. All my Christmas villages are up too, they just need to be wired so they will light up. I started my Christmas shopping online yesterday and will finish it up today. I like this a lot better then going out. Just a click of a mouse and you are done. :)

Since starting my new tart business on Ebay, I have been BUSY! I love it! I get a lot of pride and satisfaction out of making them and I love the reviews I have been getting from happy customers. It's truly been a blessing to me. Next on my list of things to do is to gather a list of scents I want to use to test and review in my tarts to make sure they are strong enough for my customers. That is always fun for me. I love to test! If you are interested, stop by my site sometime and look around. You will be able to get to my Ebay store as well. Just go to: www.jaimielaurentarts.biz

The weather is getting much cooler here and I am just sure we will be seeing our first snow fall. Not really looking forward to it, but you know that is part of Winter. I know the kids love it. :)

Until next time, many Blessings to you and yours,

Jen Ouellette

Snow Blower Time?

I wish I would have takened a picture, but we had our first snow fall happen here with about 3 inches on the ground. We knew this day would come, just was hoping not too early. Makes me wonder how the rest of winter will play out. Last year, we had to buy a heavy duty snow blower to get us out of the house... I have a feeling it is going to come into good use this year as well. Ken loves to do it. He's out there snow blowing away, even does the neighbors drive way because she has a bad back. The only problem is... she leaves her newspapers on the drive way and never picks them up, so when the snow hit's it covers the newspapers and then he goes over it not knowing they are there and did a number on his snow blower. So, not sure if he'll be doing her's again this year or not. We were right. No more wrestling her out of the van or having to carry her to the teacher. She LOVES riding the bus! The little school bus comes to pick her up right at the house as we run to it each morning and I wait patiently as it returns with her in the afternoon. If I had known it would have been this much fun and simple, we would have done this a long time ago. Not to mention the freedom she gets from riding and becoming such a "big girl" by doing so. We are proud of her. Way to go Jaimie! Ride that bus with style! :)

A New Home...........

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_NYh7euioTUQ/TMVj3uH8UiI/AAAAAAAAAEE/5q8e5inUrEg/s200/Picture1850.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5531937526219821602" />
Well, it's just about official. We walked up to the school where the teacher was waiting. I gave her hand to the teacher and as I walked away Jaimie turned around and said "Bye Mom".

This meant the world to me. Something so small as a good bye. You see, Jaimie usually talks in scripted speech. Which means she says things without rhyme or reason. Anyone who has a child with Autism knows what I am talking about. What she said didn't come from something we've said in the past, it wasn't from her favorite movie, Toy Story. It was a genuine response. Without getting into specifics, I have met some wonderful people who have shown me that they too have something in common in one way or another with our journey with our daughter, Jaimie. You see, Jaimie is considered "developmentally delayed" but after a recent meeting I had up at the school, it has been brought to my attention, that Jaimie very well maybe Autistic. A mild form, but none the less Autistic. I was deeply upset of this news, but realized the sooner we act upon getting more testing done to ensure the diagnosis, the better. It's interesting that the medical community doesn't feel she is, but the educational community feels she might. I have heard that this is not uncommon to get two totally different views. Needless to say my husband and I are going to be diving deep through information about Autism. It's something we touched on before, but we dropped the ball when the medical community came back and said she was just developmentally delayed.

Which brings me to good friends. People you meet. People understand what I am going through and yet, I never knew it until it was shared with me. I am deeply greatful for those moments in time when you connect with someone else who has faced the same challenges. The first thing in your mind that is brought up is, "Who would have thought" and "Small world". That's why I believe there is a reason for everything and a reason you meet people in our lives. It makes me wonder what the world would be like if we opened up more to people around us without the fear of T.M.I. (too much information). What kind of understanding and compassion could we come to knowing there is someone on the other side of the fence facing similiar circumstance such as yourself? I truly believe the world would be a better place if in fact we opened up more to who we truly are and what is happening in our lives....

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_NYh7euioTUQ/TJ_xqsGv--I/AAAAAAAAADk/BWbkhYjzN_E/s200/002.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5521397383875787746" />
Just for some fun, I wanted to include a picture of myself in my Steelers garb. It pays to be helpful and it pays to be just yourself. I am not some guru of network marketing. I am a stay at home Mom of 4 kids ages 23, 17, 12 and 4 years of age. I am also a Grandma to boot to a Grandson who just turned 1. I began my quest in network marketing with a little ole candle company and started out broke and a husband not so sure about my new venture. So I used what I had.... ME. I began rubbing elbows with others on message boards and placed free ads where ever I went. I developed strong relationships and in that, I found not only friends but partners for my business. Just by being myself. No magic tricks, no faking it. Just being ME. Those that like me, like me.. those who don't... I don't care anyway. I am true to myself and my beliefs and that in the end is all that matters the most. Learning lessons are precious, today I learned it does pay to be just YOU. My journey so to speak. I can tell you, I have tried MANY programs along the way before finally settling down into what I call a PASSION, because that's really what it's all about.. finding your PASSION.
Being a stay at home Mom at the time, I had no money of my own so I sought out assistance from my husband Ken to put up the funds for me to start these home businesses. Always supportive, he would. I always felt like I let him down when things didn't go the way I wanted them to go. You know, you get excited and pumped up about starting a home business let's say Avon for instance ( this is an example of what I have done by the way.) And somewhere between the excitement and feeling like "this isn't for me" it just kinda dies and you quit. Well, that was me. This is what I would do all the time and I had done this at least a dozen!

Then, I found yet another opportunity I wanted to do. This time it was with Candles. I broached the subject up with my husband and he gladly paid to get me started. Bless his heart, but this time it was different. I was enthused then like I am enthused now. I finally found my PASSION. It's fun, I like helping people achieve their goals and dreams, cheering them on. I am not the most knowledeable person in the MLM (multi level marketing)world, but I have HEART. And isn't that what it's all about anyway?

Helping people is what I do. A PASSION for what will move you is what you need to do. Keep looking for it. It's out there. You just have to discover what makes you tick. Not easy... but it's there. You just have to embrace YOU!

Thinking that the candle business might be your PASSION? I invite you to come explore that possibility here:

www.burningbelief.scent-team.com

Fall means Candle Season!

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 136px; height: 170px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_NYh7euioTUQ/TIQPm2frUNI/AAAAAAAAAC4/2d3lsMG1BEk/s200/57639404.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5513549003946152146" />
Well, you can just FEEL that Fall is in the air... well, at least for this week anyway.. temperatures here in Nebraska are cooling and I am enjoying that very much! What am I doing, where am I going, where have I been? Just some deep thoughts running through my mind. When I first started out with my candle business, I was 8 months pregnant at the time. Didn't have much money to spend and frankly, very busy. My husband was in the Air Force at the time and in another state for almost a year and I not only pregnant, but had two boys to raise on my own with the help of my Mom who would come and visit every now and then to help out. I must have been CRAZY to think about starting a business, but... something told me to JUST DO IT. So I did. Haven't looked back. Some days were easier then others, but that's just how it is. Do I regret ever getting involved? No. I have met some great people along the way and consider many of them good friends. All whom I met online. Interesting how things happen huh?

I have tried other businesses before and I have tried a few along side my candle business. Doesn't work. At least not for me. I always find myself gravitating back to the candles. They truly are my heart and soul.

So, I ask you... what is your heart and soul? What drives you? Would what I do help you? The only way to know that for sure would be to seek out information about what I do. The best way to do that is to visit my website and request information from there. You can go to: www.mydreamcandlebiz.com

I hope to hear from you soon! I have found a lot of rewards in my candle business and I hope I can share those with you!

Jen

Summer time

Summer is officially here in Nebraska. Hot and humid those are the two words to describe it here. One thing about Nebraska.... the weather sucks! It's either really really cold or really really hot. There is no in between most times except in the Fall, which is my favorite time of the year.

So, what's been happening with me since I last posted? Well, for starters the kids are out of school so keeping them busy in the summer is not always an easy task! If you have kids, you know exactly what I mean, but I am trying my best to accomodate but I am not the entertainment committee either. I have also been busy with soccer and baseball games with my middle child, Jack. He is the busiest out of my 4 children. He just got picked up from a Select Soccer team so we are thrilled about that. Many soccer games in the future, oh boy! :) My other son is busy playing xbox, enjoying his time on my computer and reading a book or two. He just finished summer school and passed math thank goodness! Now he's done with math altogether and doesn't have to take it next year. He took after me as far as not being good at math so I am glad he passed. :) My youngest daughter is going to a special education preschool program and she enjoys it. She'll be there until the 30th of July. My oldest daughter is enjoying married life with her hubby and 10 month old baby boy. Hubby and I are just playing it day to day with the usual stuff. We go out every Friday night for some R and R at our local hang out. It's nice to be able to go out with him. I had a Blue Moon beer and 18 wings in asian zing and boy was it good! then I came home and snacked on doritoes while watching the Saints vs. the Vikings game. All the while.. as I am eating each and every bit of it how I would pay dearly the next day on the scale and of course, I was right! I can't jump up and down or kick the scale because I KNEW what I was doing and although I enjoyed every bit of it.... the scale doesn't lie! I gained 2 1/2 lbs to my surprise. I expected actually 1 lb to gain not almost 3 lbs! Oh well. Needless to say, I am back on "the program" of my low carb eating. Goal this week is to lose the 2 1/2 lbs I gained and another 2 lbs for good measure. Cheer me on that I can do it! LOL How funny. I am clearly one of those people who sets up a blog then abandons it right after. Sorry! I just don't find myself being a "good little blogger" but I've decided to try! :) I do have strong beliefs and I do feel I want to share them so I will. Life gets in the way and you forget about things, that is clearly what's happened here but no more, I promise to blog much more often. After all, I made this blog for a reason. To voice my opinion and share my feelings.

I most recently started a new blog on contests. I find this fascinating! My friend, Shelly Hill got me hooked on entering contests from other blogs so for more entries, I created a contest blog so I could blog about them. Very cool!
